Peterborough Lions were proud to turn up in force yesterday to cheer Peterborough Lion David Pope along as he carried the London 2012 Olympic Torch through the streets of Hatfield.
You can watch footage of David making a few minutes of jogging look easy on the BBC website (direct link to David’s leg of the relay) or look at the photos the Lions took.
Peterborough Lions are proud to welcome Councillor George Simons, the Mayor of the City of Peterborough, as the newest club member. He was inducted as a member at the June business meeting.
The meeting also marked the end of Lion Gaby Sharman’s successful year as Lions President; when Lion Bill Peacock takes over next month he has a tough act to follow!
Peterborough Lions are proud to report that Lion David Pope, long time member of Peterborough Lions Club, with many roles in the club including Past President and current Club Secretary, has been awarded the honour of being a torch bearer for the London 2012 Olympics.
Lion David was won the honour following nomination in respect of his charitable work, including his recent walk on the Great Wall of China which raised over £2000 to fund 9 Lions Eye Camps.
Lion David also has the honour of being the main photo on last ever “Page 3” in the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, before it’s switch to its new weekly publication, alongside an excellent article. The photograph from the ET is reproduced here with kind permission.

We’re sure Deborah will be a valuable asset to the club.
We’re proud to announce the launch of a new fund-raising website for Peterborough Lions. Called “Lions’ Share”, it simply acts a a gateway to dozens of well known websites where if you then buy something, a share of the sale comes back to Peterborough Lions to use to support our projects. It doesn’t cost you anything extra, and you don’t have to give us any personal or credit card details – you still buy from directly the shops websites as usual. In some cases you can even reserve items to collect from your nearest store, paying in store as usual, and we still get a share of the sale value!
Take a look at the Lions’ Share website at www.lions-share.org.uk for more information, or jump straight to the list of all the current suppliers you can buy from through Lions’ Share – a list that’s growing all the time!

Welcome to 2012!
This year promises to be a busy one, for the club in general and for the website in particular – stay tuned!
All the Peterborough Lions would like to thank the people of Peterborough and surrounding areas for your support over the past year, and for your donations, whether you saw us with Santa and his Carol Float in the past weeks, or bought a quiz leaflet, or any of the other ways we’ve been supported in 2011.
Rest assured all the money raised will be put to good uses (if it hasn’t already!), and be just as assured our fundraising efforts will be back in the New Year to provide resources for welfare and projects in 2012.
We hope you have a great Christmas! See you soon!
