Peterborough Soup Kitchen – UPDATE July 2017
Peterborough Soup Kitchen is a local charity for homeless and disadvantaged people in the city, with the aim of ensuring that they get some hot soup, food and drinks, throughout the year, whatever the weather conditions.
The charity has been chosen by Peterborough Lion President Gaby Sharman as her “President’s Project” for 2011/12 and will be a focal point for fundraising work throughout the year. It is also expected that several Lions will be volunteering their time to work with the soup kitchen over the course of the year. (Ed:- Following the 2011/12 project several Lions from the Club decided to continue with their input to the Soup Kitchen and this continues into 2017.)
Now in its 28th year, Peterborough Soup Kitchen last year served some 20,000 cups of soup, 25,000 cups of tea and coffee, 30,000 sandwiches and 40,000 cakes and biscuits, made possible by the generosity of around 150 local volunteers who between them provided over 7,500 hours of their time over the course of 2010.
